Our Volunteers

Many people make it possible for Great Strides to operate. Included are its board of directors, NARHA-certified riding instructors, physical and occupational therapists, persons who donate the use of their horses, tack, and riding arena, the riders themselves, and our volunteers. Our volunteers are the very backbone of our program - we absolutely could not operate without you!

Volunteers may serve as:

  • Sidewalkers to walk alongside the horse & rider to ensure safety.
  • Horse leaders to lead horses (requires some experience with horses).
  • Administrative assistants to help with general administrative tasks, public relations and fund-raising.

Whether you volunteer for a few hours or many, your help is very much valued and appreciated. Your rewards are immeasurable when seeing the smiles on the faces of those riding!

For information on how you can become a volunteer, Email gstrides@gmail.com or phone 563-419-1621.

All volunteers, old and new, must complete the following forms annually:

Volunteer Information and Liability Release, and Authorization for Emergency Medical Treatment

For session schedule and directions to arena, see Events/Contacts page.

Our Horses

Great Strides is fortunate to have the use of some wonderful horses thanks to the generosity of each of their owners. Each of these horses has a special gift to do a special job - they seem to understand how precious their cargo is, and respond with gentleness and patience.
